Jamacho -Nagarjun Hill Day Hiking

Jamacho is an short hiking trail inside Kathmandu valley in Nagarjun Forest Reserve, Raniban (The Queen’s forest). Situated in the north west of the Kathmandu valley, it is the nature blessed day hiking spot in Nepal. The trail enclosed by a thick forest inside the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park takes you to the Jamacho Monastery after two and half hours of walking up to the hill.

Jamacho view point (2128m) offers the best views of northern Himalayan ranges and the best view of the Kathmandu Valley from the viewpoint beside the monastery. The Everest and langtang Himalayan ranges are awesome from here. The diverse species of flora and fauna through the pine, oak and rhododendron forest offers the splendid panorama. You can meet with the Buddhist monks praying and meditating at the monastery. You need to acquire an entrance fee for hiking around the Jamacho area which costs NRs 1000/day for foreigners, NRs 250 for SAARC national and NRs 100 for Nepalese hikers.

Kakani to Budhanilkantha Hike via Shivapuri National Park

Experience one of the most scenic day hikes in the Kathmandu Valley, trekking from Kakani to Budhanilkantha through the pristine forests of Shivapuri National Park. This day hiking rewarding 5 to 6 hours hike begins with a 21 km drive from Kathmandu to Kakani, a picturesque hill station in Nuwakot District, located about 21 km northwest of the capital sarrounded by Tamang Villages.

The trail takes you through peaceful rural villages, lush forests, and the rich biodiversity of Shivapuri National Park, where you may encounter a variety of birds, monkeys, deer, wildboor, Leopard and other native wildlife. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu mountain, and several other snow-capped peaks.

The hike concludes at Budhanilkantha, one of Nepal’s most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites. Here, you can visit the famous Budhanilkantha Temple known as Sleeping Vishnu Temple, home to the magnificent reclining statue of Lord Vishnu resting on a sacred pond.
