The 8-day Lhasa to Everest Base Camp (EBC) Overland Tour is an iconic Himalayan journey that attracts thousands of adventure seekers every year. Starting and ending in Lhasa, this route takes you through the heart of Tibet, combining rich cultural heritage with world-class mountain scenery.
Explore UNESCO World Heritage sites in Lhasa—including the historic Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and ancient monasteries—before driving along the famed Friendship Highway toward the North Face of Mount Everest.
Your overland adventure begins in the sacred city of Lhasa 3,650 m, where you spend your first days acclimatizing while visiting ancient monasteries and palaces.
From Lhasa, the journey follows the Friendship Highway, winding through high-altitude agricultural valleys, glacial rivers, and dramatic passes over 5,000m. Along the route, you will experience authentic Tibetan villages, historic monasteries, and panoramic vistas of the Himalayan mountain range. You can also explore similar land routes such as the Kathmandu to Lhasa Overland Tour via Kerung Border for an extended Himalayan road trip.
A major highlight of the trip is reaching Rongbuk Monastery, situated at 5,000 m directly facing Mount Everest. Recognized as the world’s highest monastery, Rongbuk provides an incredible backdrop for viewing the majestic North Face of Everest. From here, travelers can hike along the yak trails or take eco-buses to the official Everest Base Camp viewing area for an up-close view of the world’s highest peak.
After breakfast in Kathmandu hotel, start our journey along the Pasang Lhamu Highway to the Tibetan border Kyrong, which is alternatively opened new travel route to Tibet from Nepal. You drive through some really splendid sights- cascading waterfalls, rivers and hill-side villages and paddy. About 6 to 7 hours drive. Stop Night at guest House.
Morning immegration process we cross Kerung Border and continue drive along the himalayan trails to reach Zilong city, Lunch and continue drive through pokutso lake, Shishapangma Conservation area with teh view of Mt. Tso- Oyu, Mt. Shishspangma and view of Mt. Everest. Nyalam Pass which is called Lalung-La pass, Excellent views of mountains along the way. O/N at guest house.
From here the true grandeur of Everest’s sheer north face is visible. Overnight in Monastery or guest house.
Drive to Xigatse city, the house of the famous Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama until his death in 1989. O/N at Hotel.
After a morning visit to the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, a short two hours drive to Gyantse, a small town that once served as the capital of a small kingdom. O/N at Hotel.
A scenic drive through the Karo La Pass and Kamba La Pass with a very good views of the Yamdrok Tso Lake. Then you cross the mighty Brahmaputra River to arrive in Lhasa. O / N at Hotel.
2 days Sightseeing and excursion of the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, surroundings of Bharkhor Market, Derapung and Sera Monasteries. O / N at Hotel.
The tour end and you will free for onward destination to China or fly to Kathmandu.

The Lhasa to Everest Base Camp overland tour is an 8-day scenic trip that starts in Lhasa, passes through Gyantse and Shigatse, and reaches Tibet’s Everest Base Camp along the Friendship Highway.
You need a valid passport (with 8+ months’ validity), a Tibet Travel Permit, and a Chinese Group Visa (if entering from Kathmandu, Nepal). All permits must be arranged through an authorized travel agency.
The best months are April through November, when temperatures are mild and clear skies offer prime visibility of Mount Everest. Winter travel is possible but requires preparing for temperatures as low as -15C.
