Manang is a town in the Manang District of Nepal with an altitude of 3519m from sea level. The district covers an area of 2,246 km.Sq. where the Manang is situated in the Marshyangdi River valley to the north of Annapurna Mountain ranges, Thorong La Pass (5416m) to the west. Ghyaru Village and pisang village are two popular villages in Manang Valley from where we will see Mt. Tilicho, Mt. Annapurna II, Khangshar Peak, Pisang Peak, Julu Peak and Thorong La peak at a closeup view. There are now motorable road as well as trails where jeep are regular for transportation.
Thorong La Pass
Thorong la situated at an elevaton of 5416m above sea level is the most popular hiking destination in Annapurna Circuit Trekking trail. The pass is located on a trail which connects the Manang village to the east with the muktinath temple in the Mustang district to the west. This is the highest point in Annapurna Circuit Trek which the trekkers and local traders regularly use. While trekking from manang to Muktinath, the trekkers cross this path in one day. However, a night spend in Thorong Phedi is recommended before attempting to hike Thorong la pass. From March to May and September to November are the best months for trekking to Thorong La pass as there are risk of Avalanches, frostbite and storm.
Muktinath, located in Mustang District at an altitude of 3710m, is a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists pilgrims. This is the most popular site during the Annapurna Circuit Trekking. The most suitable time to visit Muktinath is from March to May and September to November as the weather conditions is not safe in other months.
Poon Hill, situated at an altitude of 3210m above sea level is the most popular hiking area in Annapurna Circuit Trek as it provides an opportunity to witness the scenic mountain sunrise views over Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges. Trekkers hike along stone stairs through rhododendron forest for 1 hour to reach poon hill early in the morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise views. During the peak trekking seasons, the area is quite crowded with the trekkers taking photographs, witnessing the views from view tower and taking coffee on coffee shop.
